Dove Step Campaign

Since 2012 I have fundraised for the RSPB and specifically Operation Turtle Dove.
Through undertaking endurance events with a close group of friends we have raised over £19k in support of Operation Turtle Dove. To date the Dove Step team have endured over 1930 miles for Turtle Doves across just 57 Dove Step days.

Dove Step 1

The first Dove Step journey, a 300 mile walk for Turtle Doves was completed in April 2014 and saw Robert Yaxley, Andrew Goodrick and Jonny Rankin walk from Lakenheath Fen RSPB to Saltholme RSPB, covering the core UK range of Turtle Doves in the process.

Dove Step 2

The second Dove Step journey, a 700 mile triathlon for Turtle Doves, was completed in May 2015 and included a Channel Crossing equivalent sea kayak, 570 mile cycle and 140 mile walk, connecting Suffolk to Spain. The crossing of France matched the migratory route of our summering Turtle Doves.

Dove Step 3

The third Dove Step journey was completed in March 2017; an on-foot crossing of the whole of Spain. With daily marathon distances for a month - connecting Tarifa beach with Gijon on the northern coast. This journey continued the migratory route of Turtle Doves.

Dove Step 3.1

Unable to deliver a fourth and longer journey in 2019, Dove Step 3.1 was our take on the duathlon format; a 163 mile ride followed by a marathon. Our route connected the BTO headquarters in Thetford with the Spurn Migration Festival. The last six miles of the marathon were run up and down Spurn point itself.
